Desert Safari
Evening Desert Safari — Self Drive
Take the wheel yourself — a guide ahead of you, open dunes around you, and the camp evening to finish.
Drive your own 4×4 across the dunes in convoy behind an experienced lead guide, with a radio in the car and the route chosen for the evening’s light. When the sun is down, hand over the keys and settle into the camp for dinner and the full desert evening.
The experience at a glance
- Drive a 4×4 over open dunes yourself, guided by radio from the lead car
- Full driving briefing and a practice stretch before the big dunes
- Sunset photo stop on a high crest
- Boutique camp evening: BBQ dinner, live shows, low seating
- Sandboarding and a short camel ride at camp

Good to know
Asked before every safari.
Smart casual is fine. Bring a light layer — desert evenings cool quickly once the sun is down — and flat shoes you don’t mind getting sand in. Sandals are perfect.
Not at all — tell us your needs when you enquire and the camp will have it ready. Vegetarian, vegan, halal and most allergies are handled every night.
Children love it, and drivers keep the dunes gentle when little ones are aboard — just tell us ages when you enquire. We don’t recommend dune driving during pregnancy, but you can still join for the camp evening with a smooth, direct transfer.
For evening safaris, usually mid-afternoon — the exact window depends on your hotel and the season’s light, and we confirm it with you the day before. Mornings start early, before the heat.
October to April is the desert at its best — warm days, cool evenings. Summer safaris still run and have their own beauty; we simply shift towards mornings and later starts, and the camps are quieter.
Yes — every experience can run as your own vehicle and, where you’d like it, your own corner of camp. Mention it when you enquire and we’ll quote both ways so you can compare.
